Description
Twin-hole fiber has two symmetrical side holes on both sides of the core, so it is also called side-hole fiber. Side-hole fiber is Mainly used for distributed pressure sensing. When the fiber is stressed, the core exhibits a difference in stress in the X and Y axes, resulting in localized birefringence. Accurate pressure measurements can be obtained using distributed sensing techniques or point sensors, such as Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG). There are also applications for filling pores with liquids or gases for various chemical sensing applications where evanescent waves from light on the X-axis interact with the liquid or gas.
These sensors are manufactured using dual-bore fiber optics for use in high-temperature environments. Sensors can be miniaturized for in vivo biomedical applications and deployed in environments with high electromagnetic interference (EMI), such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Dual-bore fiber optic sensors can also be applied in downhole process monitoring and flow rate measurement, optimizing pipeline safety by monitoring slow leaks and disaster effects, and can be used in biomedical monitoring, such as coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis) and carotid artery disease accurate locating.
